Doug Lemov visits Blaise High School

Blaise High School was fortunate to have Doug Lemov join us for the day on Wednesday 17th April.

He saw our reinduction in the morning, led by our lead practitioners, and then went on learning walks around the school with our T&L team with a focus on means of participation.

There was so much useful feedback, not to mention lots of praise for the staff teaching here. There was particular mention to the staff at line up for their warmth and welcome, for lessons crackling to life during turn and talks, and for a good variety of means of participation. There was one particular classroom that Doug didn't want to leave!

It has left us here at Blaise with lots to reflect upon and think about for our T&L journey next year, and it was really reassuring to hear how aligned we were with the way Doug thinks. In particular, our next steps with sequencing our means of participation to ensure that participating is seen as the norm in every lesson.

We then travelled to Gloucester Academy where Doug gave a talk on means of participation. This is something I know all Greenshaw Learning Trust schools are currently working on, and it was exciting to hear Doug's thought process and reasoning with some really useful examples of best practice.

Thank you to Sophie Exton who made this happen and organised a really successful day.
