Brakenhale’s 'Great Big Live Assembly'
GLT schools celebrate Black History Month 2023.
Schools across the Trust celebrated Black History Month during October in a variety of ways. Below are details of Brakenhale’s experience of joining the ‘Great Big Assembly Live’.
On Tuesday 10th October, Brakenhale School joined the 'Great Big Live Assembly' for Black History Month. This was hosted by the Sanctuary Foundation and was broadcast nationally for schools –both primary and secondary – who wanted to join it live at 9.00am. As a school, the whole community joined to watch it for 30 minutes.
The assembly focused on this year’s theme: 'Celebrate Our Sisters', where black women were celebrated for their excellent contribution to all areas of society. During the live broadcast, Luke in Year 7 shared that Michelle Obama was a black woman he was inspired by due to her humble beginning and her fantastic achievements. This segment was filmed by Sky Kids programme. About 24 minutes into the clip, you can see Luke and Brakenhale's wonderful Year 7 students.
