Henley Bank High School Recognised Nationally for Defying the Odds in GCSE Success

Henley Bank High School in Gloucester has been recognised in Schools Week as part of a national report highlighting schools that are significantly exceeding expectations in GCSE English and mathematics outcomes.
A recent analysis by FFT Education Datalab explored how schools across the country are supporting the so-called “forgotten third” – pupils who traditionally finish Year 11 without a grade 4 in English and maths. Henley Bank High School was named amongst the top performers, with results last year far exceeding expectations.
Commenting on the school’s success, Will Smith, CEO of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, said:
We see maths and English GCSE as an absolute game-changer for all children. Reading is probably, next to safeguarding, the single most important thing across our organisation.
Henley Bank’s structured reading programme, combined with a strong focus on high expectations and tailored support, is part of the school’s commitment to ensuring every student is given the best chance to succeed.
This recognition highlights the dedication of staff and the impact of collaborative work across the Trust to deliver outstanding outcomes for all learners.
